Our Story.

Solidarity gardens were started with a simple goal in mind: Feeding the Urbana-Champaign community

The gardens stated in 2020 during the pandemic, but it’s importance to the community has grown since then. Solidarity gardens seeks to reduce food insecurity by teaching the community to grow fresh food, and by providing the space and tools to do so.

With help from the broader community, Solidarity Gardens CU will be offering free seeds, seedlings, tools, equipment, soil, containers, miscellaneous supplies, gardening expertise, and educational resources to any interested party in the Champaign-Urbana area, and will then collect, process, and redistribute donated produce to community members who are facing economic and food access challenges through the Solidarity Gardens CU Distribution Network.
